East Side Stories

serves as a community resource.

We support and build intracommunity bonds through collaboration, creating engaging and dynamic media content for local AAPI businesses, organizations, and individuals.

This program brings diverse voices and talent to the forefront of media and conversation surrounding inclusivity and solidarity in our communities. We share our values and expand the scope of our mission by engaging collaboratively with AAPI businesses, organizations and figures through providing consultation on AAPI cultural awareness in film and media, as well as providing AAPI talent and creative services for various media and content needs.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

ATO X SAN PELLEGRINO:
On The Line (2021)

‘On the Line’ is a two-part event series created by ATO, in collaboration with S.Pellegrino® Sparkling Natural Mineral Water, that celebrates and supports line cooks in the restaurant industry.

The event goals are to give the community of young and aspiring chefs a nurturing space to start a conversation and raise awareness about professional obstacles, provide them with support and opportunity in this ever-changing industry – and, at the most basic level, offer some optimistic encouragement and treat them to a special dining experience on their night off.

Chowbus x Heart Of Dinner (2022)

Chowbus is teaming up with the nonprofit Heart of Dinner and combining their mission to connect Asian Americans with Asian food and provide an avenue for Asian Americans to have access to comfort, culture, familiarity and warmth through local restaurants and delivery.

Chowbus and Heart of Dinner deliver more than just food for NYC Asian Americans. They create networks of community and support for Asian Americans in NYC, particularly those who face language and transportation barriers. There’s no better way to say “I hope you’re well, be safe,” than a warm hot meal delivered to your doorstep.

SOAR OVER HATE: AAPI Care Fair (2021)

The AAPI Care Fair was co-organized and supported by nonprofit and community organizations including Asians Fighting Injustice, the American Legal Defense and Education Fund, Apex for Youth, the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, and more.

The event garnered over 2,000 attendees, over 130 volunteers, 11 community organizations, 4 local AAPI music artist groups and 10 therapy pups for local residents to enjoy.

Soar Over Hate donated, 5,850 self-defense devices: 3,000 personal alarms, 1,500 pepper sprays, 1,000 whistles, and 350 kubotans to community members, and gave out over 10,000 personal face masks.

Other services included hepatitis B education and testing, hypertension screening, a self defense course, voter registration, COVID vaccine sign-ups, and sign-ups for volunteering with community organizations.

Community Immunity (2021)

Community Immunity was an initiative led by local nonprofit groups Welcome to Chinatown, W Girls NYC, The Covid Foundation, the Chinatown B.I.D. and Chinatown Partnership to make signing up for Covid vaccinations accessible for the elderly, multilingual, and low income residents of Manhattan Chinatown.

From the Community Immunity event, 400 Chinatown residents were scheduled for Covid vaccination, and within the first week after the event, over 200 attendees had already received one dose of the vaccine.

Donating will help East Side Stories further our mission: we hope to honor the real stories and experiences of Asian Americans. Their stories are complex, moving, and deeply personal. These are the stories of our families, friends and neighbors. We aim to highlight their humanity, the good and the bad, as a way of honoring and giving a voice to their lived experiences.
